Dedicate Daf 18a to:

6.
If
the Sotah's scroll
was written on two pages, it's invalid,

Either on two different columns or on two separate pieces of paper glued together .

For
the Torah demands
that the scroll be written as
"a book", and not two or three books.

7.
If one wrote a letter and erased
it into the water
, wrote a letter and erased
it into the water, the resultant mixture is
invalid,

As the Torah says
"and the Kohen shall execute upon her all this law."

"All this law" implies that the whole scroll must be erased as one.

Rava asked
three questions
:

1. What is the Halacha if
one wrote two scrolls for two
different
Sotahs, and then erased
both of them
into one cup
and gave from the water to the Sotahs
?

Does
each scroll have to be
written for
the Sotah
who is
drinking it,
(which it is)

Or perhaps
each scroll
must be erased
in such a way that it's clear
for
which Sotah the mixture is being made,
which they aren't.

2. Moreover,
even if
each scroll
must be erased
in such a way that it's clear
for
which Sotah the mixture is being made

What is the Halacha if one erased
both scrolls into their own cups
and then mixed
the mixtures together
together?

Must each scroll be
erased for the sake of
the Sotah
, which it is,

Or perhaps,
since each Sotah
is not drinking
all of her mixture (as she's sharing with the other Sotah), the Sotah test doesn't work.

3.
And even
if the Halacha is that two Sotahs may not drink their mixtures from one cup,

What is the Halacha if
the Kohen
divided
their mixtures into two cups and gave each Sotah her own cup
?

Is there
retroactive clarification
or not?

The Gemara leaves off without an answer

Rava asked:

What
is the Halacha if a Sotah
drank
her mixture
through a straw?

What
is the Halacha if a Sotah drank her mixture
through a tube?

Is this the normal way of drinking or not?

The Gemara leaves off without an answer

Rav Ashi asked:

What
is the Halacha if
some
of the water
spilled and some
of the water
remained
in the cup. May the Sotah drink from the leftover water?

The question remains unresolved

Rav Zeira said in the name of Rav:

Why
does the Torah write
two oaths?

1. "And the Kohen shall make her swear and he shall say to the woman: 'If no man has lain with you, and you have not strayed uncleanly from your husband, then be clean of these bitter, blighting waters.'"
2. "Then the Kohen shall make the woman swear with the oath of the curse, and the Kohen shall say to the woman: 'May Hashem render you a curse and an oath in the midst of your people by Hashem's causing your thigh to fall and your belly to swell.'"

The Gemara answers:

The Sotah was made to swear
one oath before the scroll is erased,
and is forced to say the other oath
after the scroll is erased.

Rava asked:

But
both are written
in the Torah
before the scroll is erased?

The Kohen erases the scroll into the water two verses later!

Rather, Rava answers that one oath has a curse, while
the other does not.

The Gemara asks:

What is an "oath with a curse?"

The Gemara will give three answers:

1.
Rav Amram said in the name of Rav,
that the oath was made in the following manner
:

The Kohen would say
"I am placing an oath upon you that you were not impure, for if you were impure, the waters will come into you ..."

Rava responded
that this is not an "oath with a curse" for
the oath is alone, and the curse is alone.

2.
Rather, Rava
answered that the "oath with a curse" was
:

The Kohen would say:
"I am placing an oath upon you that if you were impure they waters will enter you...""

Rav Ashi responded that while there is a curse, there is no oath.

Rather, Rav Ashi said:

3. The Kohen would say
"I am placing an oath upon you that you were not impure,
and
if you are impure the waters will enter you..."
